Once upon a time, we tried to change Indian marriage.
No dowry. Parents used the money-gifts for wedding.
The couple lived on their own.
One person earned about $300 per month, the other little more.
No house-helps. No outside help to bring up kids.

I still try that stunt,
But the clever ask, "Is that how you lived?"
That's tougher than when they call me stupid,
Or when they try sarcasm, "Wow! Your great words!"
I won't tell you the good I thought or did,
I will have to tell you how really stupid I lived.
